Verified Reviewer | San Francisco, CaliforniaBUYER BEWARE!!! ACTUALLY, JUST STAY AWAY!!!
UPDATE: The site 5miles, where individuals can sell their random unwanted items locally, began offering a platform that is identical to Tophatter. Maybe I'm stupid, but I gave it a shot and bought just a couple of things to test it out. I had more luck with this one,...
As they came in, there was something wrong with each and every one of them! THEIR MAKE-UP IS FAKE! THEIR JEWELRY (that they say is .925 sterling silver) IS FAKE! THE ITEMS YOU RECEIVE DON'T MATCH THE PICTURE!
THE CHEAP, FLIMSY ELECTRONICS COME WITH COMPONENTS THAT DON'T FIT INTO U.S. OUTLETS, AND THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE IN CHINESE!! I've now received all 9 Kylie Jenner makeup products I ordered, and all 9 were FAKE! Look at the pictures of these bronze palette KJ eyeshadows they sent me!
THESE ARE THE EXACT SAME ITEM, SO WHY ARE THEY SO DIFFERENT??? I ordered a .925 "sterling silver" necklace and got this gumball machine reject instead! I took it by a jeweler yesterday and guess what? YUP!
FAKE! AND LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURE! (And I didn't get the gift box either!) So, if I'm sent a fake necklace that looks nothing like the picture and is missing the gift box, they'll surely make the seller pay the return postage, right?? WRONG!!
Oh, and by the way, if you don't pay extra to add a tracking number, THEY WON'T ACCEPT THE RETURN!! I also want to add, if you still want to take your chances with this app, BE VERY CAREFUL!! The pictures can be VERY misleading! People are paying $50 + shipping for what looks like a laptop/iPad, but make sure you don't miss the teeny-tiny little writing that says "ipad not included"!
Sure, you can cancel your order, but then they suspend your account! I 100% BELIEVE THAT THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE, AND HOPE THAT WHEN YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU GOT, YOU'LL JUST KEEP IT RATHER THAN PAY $30 TO SHIP IT BACK TO CHINA!! A final thought: the bidding is rigged. I believe they have "bots" bidding items up, making sure they sell for their REAL minimum.
(You really think you're getting that video camera for $1 + $6 shipping?!) Every time I would go on there, I would see the same names bidding on EVERYTHING, and these same "people" were there no matter what time of day I went on! Oh, I almost forgot! They offer a $10 credit for referrals, but if you do get your friends/family to use the link you provided, and then make several purchases, YOU WILL NEVER RECEIVE THE CREDIT! Instead, you get excuses for why you PROBABLY didn't get it.
Ummm, would it be asking too much for you to do your friggin' job and look into that for me? OF COURSE IT IS! Tophatter ONLY responds with PRE-WRITTEN VERBIAGE!
Whether or not you believe or agree with my big, long spiel, you can't argue with the pictures. They're worth 1,000 words-- or 10,000 in this case:) YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!!

Why would anyone buy someting with that retard Jenner's name on it?
Tophatter is an auction site for Chinese goods, and occasionally some American sellers will sell things like factory refurbs. I can say I was scammed a few times, but I learned to pay attention to the listings and price check items on ebay (a lot are also listed there!).
Sometimes you will get something completely *** It happens. Here is my list of things to avoid: Memory cards, USB memory sticks, cell phones, tablets (unless it's name brand and you recognize it), the car air purifier, all jewelry, clothing (its a 50/50), pictures, projectors or screens, batteries, anything that would use glass (glasses, binoculars, microscopes) as everything will be plastic lenses. Things that are ok: reserve auctions, factory refurbs, tools, toys, video games (know that they are knockoffs!), smart plugs, USB cables, USB camera, some gopro knockoffs, some various electronics. Like I said, it's a total toss up and you need to learn to look at the photos.
Read any reviews as well. I have some awesome items that were dirt cheap.
Your lists of things to buy and not to buy is definitely helpful, especially for people reading this thread that are planning on using the site. I obviously haven't used it since that last awful experience, so maybe they've actually gotten better since then??
I had also received a few items that were decent for the money, but maybe part of my problem was what types of items I was buying. Either way, hopefully others have had better luck with the site since I originally posted this!
The bidding lasts less than a minute.... how are you price checking
Isn’t there a saying that goes you get what you pay for? If one thinks they are getting a new brand name item for 95% off of retail, I have a bridge to sell you!
True, but my original post had only partially to do with receiving fake items. The bigger issue was that this site is knowingly letting sellers basically scam people by claiming things are something they're not.
There are actually plenty of sites where you CAN find some amazing deals. I recently bought a pair of Muk Luk boots that sold in stores for close to $100; I paid less than $20 for them. There are also numerous sites where you can buy things through Amazon for little to nothing in some cases. I buy things all the time through them, and have paid less than a dollar for something that was being sold for $35.
I have yet to receive even 1 item where the quality has been as subpar as it was through Tophatter. I was obviously pissed when I wrote that, so of course I never thought to mention anything I received that didn't seem like a total ripoff. Out of those 30 or so items, there were a few things that I was happy with for the money.
We're talking roughly 1 good product for every 8 pieces of *** you receive though, and I don't love those odds! Lol My point is just that there are legitimate sites out there where you can find amazing deals, and where they aren't doing things in such a shady way.
@jengagers, can you name a couple of the better sites, please?
Yes some of the products and companies that Tophatter has on their app are *** however that is the way it goes in the business world or world period good bad honest or trying to screw someone. Being a single parent of a low income family I can speak about both sides of this.
I use Tophatter and I have had really good things come from overseas and here and arrive in exceptable conditions, being pretty much as I expected it to be & I have also used it and had decent things come broken or NOTHING like they were advertised just blatant lies things that were as they were advertised except for very cheaply made. I have bought or one thing that has not shown up at all yet they won’t do anything about it.
Myself being low income using this app is a true gamble which sucks when you find out you have to pay more for a tracking number back then the purchase initially was I truly believe that if Tophatter would Monitor and Listen to their customers, weed out the *** all of it, ALL OF IT get involved with who’s auctioning items, what they’re advertising, sending, how they send how they treat/ handle their customers, etc. and make a positive change their customers would see it, feel it’s effect, be happy and pass on that info - the people who use them to auction their stuff off would hear that Tophatter does not allow *** or dishonesty misconception and either step up or out and it would be a win-win for everyone except the ones that were trying to deliberately screw ppl
I agree with you 100% on that. Tophatter should take action when it comes to sellers who receive multiple complaints.
It could be a 3 strikes and you're out type deal where they're no longer allowed to sell on the site after the 3rd valid complaint, or something to that effect. They have no problem "punishing" their customers by restricting or banning accounts due to too many returns. There wouldn't be so many returns if your site and sellers weren't so shady! Like you, I take issue with any company or person that knowingly sells people *** items to make a profit.
It's just unethical, and I do hope they've improved on this since I stopped using the site back in 2017. I may never know though b/c I most definitely will never purchase from them again.
It is Sept. 2019.
I started with tophatter as a buyer like 2 months ago. I hate this site.
I.hate the false fake products. I am.just waiting for my final items in transit and I am done with this site completely
